Can I know the sex of my baby?

When you are having an ultrasound after 16 weeks, you will be able to decide if you want to know your baby’s sex or not. Many parents do want to know right away, but others prefer to be surprised when their baby arrives.

You should be able to find out your baby’s sex during the following scans at The Birth Company clinic:

  • A sexing or gender scan, which can be arranged from 16 weeks
  • The 20 week anomaly scan
  • Any additional scans or reassurance scans that you have after 16 weeks

Keeping it Secret

If you would rather not know your baby’s sex, just let your sonographer know before the scan. We’ll do our best to stop you from seeing anything that could give the secret away.

Why We Might Not Be Able to Tell

If you decide that you do want to know, we’ll do our best to find out for you. However, it can sometimes be tricky to get the right view of your baby. Sometimes babies are just in the wrong position when we do the scan. If you’re carrying some excess weight around your stomach or you’re expecting more than one baby, this can also make it harder for us to get a clear view.
