Dr Phil Bullen graduated from Manchester University Medical School and spent time training in Manchester, London and Newcastle before being appointed as a Consultant Obstetrician and Sub-Specialist in Fetal & Maternal Medicine at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester in 2000.
During his time as a Consultant there St Mary’s Hospital has developed in to one of the busiest Fetal Medicine Units in the country and the busiest Labour Ward with complex cases referred in from across the North West region. Phil was Clinical Director for Obstetrics there from 2007-2010, and Fetal Medicine Lead from 2012-2023. On the clinical side he has developed the fetal transfusion service, a preterm labour assessment clinic, an external cephalic version (ECV) service and Joint Obstetric-Neurology Antenatal Clinic.
Dr Bullen has extensive experience in detailed fetal diagnostic scanning and invasive diagnostic procedures (fetal blood sampling, amniocentesis and chorionic villous sampling (CVS)) as well as across a broad experience of both high risk Obstetrics and general antenatal care.
Since 2001 alongside the NHS work Phil has also been providing private patients Obstetric care. For the last 6 years this was based at HCA’s sister facility at the Wilmslow Hospital.

All the staff were really nice to us . At the reception, the girls were smiling and welcoming. We were late and they managed to give us another quick appointment without waiting. The Lady who did a Scan was really good and professional. I was able to ask all questions I wanted and she was really reassuring.
