What Should I expect from my Midwife Consultation? 

Now that you are getting closer to meeting your baby, this is a great time to come and chat with our private midwife about optimal fetal positioning (i.e. helping to make sure baby is in a great position for birth) and what you may experience during labour. We can assist you with writing your birth plan and talk through all options that are available to you in terms of pain relief when the big day comes. 

Our private midwife will monitor for symptoms of pre-eclampsia by performing blood pressure and urine checks. She will perform an abdominal palpation to assess baby’s position and listen to baby’s heartbeat using a handheld fetal heart monitor. A blood test will be performed to check iron levels. 

We will discuss screening for Group B Strep, this test can be performed at the clinic or in the privacy of your home. For more information click here click here:

What are the indications for having a Private Midwife Consultation? 

  •  Our private midwife appointments are 60 minutes. We offer longer appointment times to ensure that you have the time you need to discuss any of your concerns.
  •  Partners are welcome to attend appointments with you.
  •  Appointments times convenient to you and usually available at short notice on the same day.

What are the contraindications for having Private Midwife care at The Birth Company?

Midwives are experts at caring for women during pregnancy. However, if you are recommended to have consultant care by the NHS during your pregnancy, our midwife consultations would not be suitable for you, however we are happy to organise a consultation with our lead consultant Dr Donald Gibb.

The following are reasons why you may be referred for consultant care:

Previous pregnancy:

  • Pre-Eclampsia
  • Hypertension
  • Obstetric Cholestasis
  • Consultant led care
  • Low birth weight
  • Previous gynaecological surgery 

Previous significant medical history such as:

  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes
  • First degree relative with Diabetes (Mother/Father/Siblings)
  • Endocrine disorders such as Hyper / Hypothyroidism
  • Any blood disorders such as Thalassaemia/Sickle cell

Is it easy to make an appointment?

At The Birth Company in Harley Street, London we offer morning, afternoon and evening availability for your Private Midwife Consultation during the week. A surcharge will be applied for evening appointments. We have a wide range of availability therefore same day appointments can be easily arranged. Our Private Midwife is here to reassure even at short notice.

Cancellation Policy 

For cancellations, a full refund of your appointment fee will be given with 24 hours notice. If less than 24 hours notice of cancellation is given, a £50 cancellation fee will be applied. Our full terms and conditions can be found here: Terms and Conditions

Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) IgG Antibody blood test £100
