Check screening tests available
Screening tests are a key part of your antenatal care to ensure that you and your baby are healthy. It’s important to know which tests are available and why you might need them. We can help you to decide which tests to have and arrange them for you.
During your antenatal appointments we may perform the following tests:
- Measuring your height and weight to ensure you maintain a healthy BMI
- Measuring your bump to check it’s growing at the expected rate
- Checking you’ve had all your vaccinations, especially against diseases like rubella that could harm your baby
- Urine test to look for signs of diabetes or pre-eclampsia
- Blood pressure check to ensure it isn’t too high
- Blood test to check for anaemia, diabetes, or infections. We’ll also find out your blood group to see if there’s a risk of rhesus disease and in case you need a transfusion during labour
We will also perform all of the ultrasounds that you need during pregnancy. We can screen for condiitions such as Down’s syndrome. Depending on your needs, we may recommend some or all of the following scans:
- Viability scan
- 12 week or Nuchal Translucency Scan
- Reassurance and wellbeing scans
- Sexing scan
- 20 week or anomaly scan
- Cervical scan
- 4D scan
We may also recommend Non-invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) to confirm the results of an ultrasound screening test or to check for specific genetic conditions
- TDL VeriSeq v2 by Illumina Test
- Panorama Test
