Considering NIPT During Early Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a truly special time, filled with excitement, anticipation and often, a lot of questions. For many first-time parents, each stage of the journey can feel both joyful and overwhelming. As you navigate these early weeks, you may be exploring different options to support your growing family, including Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)
What Is NIPT?
Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing is currently the most advanced non-invasive pregnancy screening available for parents who would like to determine if they have a low probability or high probability for their baby having the conditions Down’s syndrome, Edwards’ syndrome or Patau’s syndrome. The Harmony test was the first NIPT offered in the UK, but is no longer available.
Whether or not NIPT is right for your family is a personal decision. Your feelings and priorities during pregnancy may shift in ways you didn’t expect, and for some, having detailed information about their baby’s health can offer peace of mind.
Why Choose Private NIPT?
Opting for a private NIPT can be more convenient than waiting for your NHS appointment at 12–14 weeks. Private testing can be performed from as early as 9 weeks, giving you earlier insights and reassurance.
At the Portland Hospital Outpatients, we offer NIPT appointments throughout the week, including Saturdays and Sundays to suit your schedule.
